Sino Biopharmaceutical Launches SBP Group, Its New Global Brand

The company has licensed candidates so far in 2026 to Sanofi and AstraZeneca.

Editor’s Take: A launch, relaunch, or rebrand often reflects—as in this case—a switch from domestic to global focus.

Sino Biopharmaceutical, based in China, launched a new global brand, SBP Group, during an interim results meeting on Aug. 19.

What Will SBP Be?

Though the acronym contains key letters in Sino Biopharmaceutical, the company says here, they stand for “science, breakthroughs, and patients”:

  • Science, they say, is where the company starts;
  • Breakthroughs are what SBP will pursue;
  • Patients are the company’s “why”—as stated in a press release.

This new identity reflects a strategic evolution, from a leading biopharmaceutical company within China to a global innovator. The transformation hinges on two fronts of advancement: product globalization, and business globalization.

The product globalization end involves building a pipeline of assets through in-house R&D and acquisition. Business globalization, meanwhile, will include both global partnerships and direct, commercial expansion in key markets.

“2026 marks the first year of executing our globalization strategy,” Chairwoman of the Board Theresa Tse said. “We have made strong progress. SBP Group is committed to working with global partners to accelerate global development and availability of innovative medicines from China … Leveraging our AI-driven, fully integrated R&D platform, we aim to advance breakthroughs at the frontiers of science. The ultimate goal [is] benefiting more patients and improving human health.”

Sino Portfolio Details

Sino Biopharmaceutical/SBP Group lists two key transactions on its 2026 ledger thus far. One is the licensing of rovadicitinib, a first-in-class dual JAK/ROCK inhibitor, to Sanofi for $1.53 billion. The other is the licensing of TQC3721, an inhaled PDE3/4 inhibitor for COPD, to AstraZeneca for $1.9 billion.

The company’s mission is stated as “science for a healthier world.” Its product portfolio covers biologics and small-molecule drugs in oncology, liver and cardiometabolic as well as respiratory and autoimmune diseases, and surgery/analgesia.
